Rabies in humans can cause headaches, fever, insomnia, anxiety, hallucinations. In then advances to partial paralysis and difficulty swallowing. Once these symptoms become apparent DEATH usually occurs within a few days.
Your pet will exhibit slightly different symptoms than if you contracted the disease. Dogs develop signs of rabies within 21 to 80 days after exposure and in pets the disease has two main forms: paralytic and furious. Lets go over both:
Paralytic form will cause your pet to hypersalivate, lose their ability to swallow, and may exhibit a dropped jaw. When animals get this type of rabies , they typically remain nonaggressive and will not try to bite you. Once these signs appear, paralysis rapidly progresses through your pets 's body, almost immediately followed by coma and death!
Furious form is often what you think of when you think of rabies (hence picture above). These animals viciously attack without warning . Wild animals lose their fear of humans. A change is vocal tone will become apparent as well as an obvious change in temperament.
